Marife Aczon-Armstrong

Marife C. Aczon-Armstrong graduated from Hawaii Pacific University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and Chaminade University of Honolulu with a Masters of Science in Counseling Psychology (MSCP). She completed her Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) and anticipates receiving her Doctorate in nursing degree from the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 2009.

She is a lifetime member of the National Honor Society for Graduate Psychology Students (PSI CHI) and the International Honor Society for Graduate Nurses (Sigma Theta Tau and Gamma-PSI-at-Large).

Marife was a member of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association (APNA) and the Asian American Pacific Islander Nurses Association (AAPINA). She is also a recipient of an employee scholarship award from the Queens Emma Nursing Institute.

Marife is an Adjunct faculty at Hawaii Pacific University’s School of Nursing teaching in the undergraduate program (Adult Health II clinical and Applied Therapeutic Communication).

With passion to serve the underserved population, she was chosen to serve as a Community Executive for the Aloha United Way where she learned leadership in bringing people together to create a healthier, more compassionate community. Her expertise is in counseling, mental health, case management and utilization management, health insurance, diabetes education, medical/surgical nursing and oncology nursing. Marife is the Coordinator for the Queen’s Medical Center’s Case Management/Utilization Management Department spearheading the new case management model to serve the indigent patient population of Hawaii.

Marife’s current research topic is “Alcohol and Substance use among patients with chronic illnesses”. She plans to examine quality of life and depression in chronically ill patients with a history of substance use.
