MFP Fellow Presents Poster at Mental Health America Conference
MHA 2008 POSTER PRESENTATION SYNOPSIS
Margaret A. Wheatley, RN, MSN, PhDc
Margaret presented a poster on her dissertation findings at the 2008 Annual Conference of Mental Health America (formerly known as the National Mental Health Association). It was held June 4 – 7, 2008 at the Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.
The theme of this year’s conference was “No Health without Mental Health”. Mental Health America (formerly known as the National Mental Health Association) is the country’s oldest, largest, and leading nonprofit organization dedicated to helping all people live mentally healthier lives.
Mental Health America was established in 1909 by former psychiatric patient Clifford W. Beers. During his stays in public and private institutions, Beers witnessed and was subjected to horrible abuse. From these experiences, Beers set into motion a reform movement that took shape as Mental Health America.
Each year, the Mental Health America Conference draws together hundreds of leaders and advocates from across the country in Washington, D.C. to learn about critical issues in the behavioral health field and strategies for collective action.
Attendees include executives and staff from our 320 state and local affiliates, mental health consumers, family members, policymakers, advocates, providers, and academic, government and business leaders. Two keynote speakers at this year’s conference were Thomas Insel, M.D., Director, National Institute of Mental Health and Carl Bell, M. D., clinician, scientist, internationally respected lecturer, and author.
