MFP Announces New Fellows For FY 2007 - 2008 (9/05/07)


The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration's (SAMHSA) Minority Fellowship Program (MFP) at the American Nurses Association (ANA) is pleased to announce and introduce to you the three new fellows appointed for FY 2007 - 2008.

Kim Jolly, RN is a full time doctoral student at the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing at Florida Atlantic University. She intends to research the risky behaviors, particularly substance use and related sexual activity, in adolescents.

Robert Pope, RN, MSN is a full time doctoral student at the University of California San Francisco in the School of Physiological Nursing. He is trained as a Geriatric Nurse Practitioner and is interested in researching the basic social processes surrounding illicit drug use among older African Americans.

Cheryl L. Wood-Giscombe, PhD, RN was appointed as a post-doctoral fellow at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Her research program is designed to incorporate a sociohistorical lens to investigate how stress and coping strategies contribute to the psychological and physical health status of African American women and to develop culturally-relevant strategies to prevent stress-related mental health outcomes, including depression, disordered eating, and substance abuse and related adverse physical health conditions.
