Hurricane Katrina devastated the social, political and economic landscape of the United States. When Katrina effortlessly shredded the roof of the superdome, it revealed a nest of poverty and despair that has long plagued Black communities in New Orleans and throughout the world. Many poor Blacks were left behind to watch their neighborhoods, their possessions and their lives seized by waters from Lake Ponchatrain and the Mississippi River
