NBNA Members Honored by Prestigious Organizations



Congratulations to the following members who have been recognized by prestigious organizations for their knowledge, their service and their commitment to improving the health of society.

  • Dr Betty Smith Williams and Barbara Nichols will be inducted as American Academy of Nursing Living Legends during its annual conference on Thursday, November 11, 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., Grand Hyatt Hotel, Washington, DC.
  • Dr. Williams is a NBNA Co-Founding Member and Past President. She received the NBNA Life Time Achievement Award at the 38th NBNA Institute and Conference on August 7th. Dr. Williams is a member of the Council of Nurses, Los Angeles.
  • Dr. Barbara Nichols is the CEO of the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools and is a member of the South Eastern Pennsylvania Black Nurses Association.
  • Dr Beverly Malone was named “One of the 100 Most Powerful People in Healthcare” by Modern Healthcare Magazine. She was ranked number 29. Dr. Malone is the CEO of the National League for Nursing and the former General Secretary, Royal College of Nursing, United Kingdom. She is a Past President of the American Nurses Association. She is a member of the New York Black Nurses Association.
  • Dr Janice Phillips was selected as a Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellow. Dr. Phillips is currently the Manager - Nursing Research, Research Associate/Assistant Professor, Center for Clinical Cancer Genetics and Global Health, University of Chicago Medical Center, Chicago, IL. She is a member of the Chicago Chapter National Black Nurses Association.
