Cardiovascular Genomics, Framingham Heart Study and NHLBI
The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) at the National institutes of Health is inviting applications for a tenure-track scientist to develop an independent research program in cardiovascular genomics approaches in the NHLBI's Framingham Heart Study and other NHLBI populations, to more directly translate findings from genomics research into personalized approaches to prediction, prevention, and treatment of CVD. Research opportunities exist from collaborations within large scale DNA/RNA sequencing projects, genotyping in large populations of adults and children, integrative genomics and other bioinformatics approaches in multiple genomics datasets, and multi-phased studies to integrate induced pluripotential stem cell profiling into personalized medicine research.
Applicants should possess an M.D. and/or Ph.D., and training in the field of bioinformatics, systems biology, genetic epidemiology, and/or statistical genetics, an outstanding record of achievements in research, and excellent publication history, evidence of mentoring ability, and provide evidence of contributing to the development of their discipline. We seek a talented individual who has a clear research vision to advance cutting edge research into the role of genetic, genomic and lifestyle factors in the susceptibility to and progression of clinically apparent and subclinical CVD and its risk factors and into the understanding the mechanisms underlying interindividual and interfamily differences in CVD susceptibility and progression, with a long-range focus on promoting the conduct of ethical and effective translation of this research into a personalized approach to prediction, prevention, and treatment of CVD in diverse U.S. populations.
The intramural program of NHLBI is dedicated to maintaining an excellent research environment with 5 Basic Research Centers and 3 Clinical/Translational Branches comprising 64 principal investigators working on a wide spectrum of research topics. The position comes with ready access to state of the art core facilities, including a core DNA sequencing laboratory, and statistical expertise. In addition to leading a vigorous and independent research program, the successful candidate will take an active role in continuing to build the Center for Cardiovascular Genomics in the NHLBI.
The successful candidate will be offered a competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualification. This position is located in Framingham, Massachusetts.
