Asian American Pacific Islander Nurses Meet in San Francisco




The Asian American Pacific Islander Nurses Association (AAPINA) held it’s 4th Annual Conference March 30 – April 1, 2007 in San Francisco, CA. In keeping with the conference theme, Asian Pacific Islander Families: Bridging Inter-generational Health Concerns, attendees had an opportunity to participate in an educational visit to On Lok Senior Health Services, a day care center that was formed in 1971 where older adults can receive health care supervision, social services and hot meals, then return to their homes in the evening. The more than 50 nurses took advantage of many opportunities to interact and share their ideas on topics such as Mental Health Issues in Asian Americans: Overview Using the Cultural Formulation, Studying Chinese Americans’ Readiness for Advance Care Planning, Families and Elder Care: Research Issues for Clinical Practice, and Family Care giving from Diverse Asian Perspectives.

MFP Alumni Patti Urso, PhD, APRN, FNP, ANP,BC presented a poster presentation entitled, “A Holistic Infrastructure for Tobacco Cessation Treatment and Education in a Multicultural and Rural Community.” MFP Program Manager, Janet Jackson, staffed the exhibit display disseminating more than 50 copies of recruitment literature.
