MFP Model Presented at 2007 International Council of Nursing Conference




More than 4,000 nurse leaders from around the world came together during the 2007 International Council of Nursing (ICN) Conference, May 27 – June 2, in Yokohama, Japan presenting on cutting edge research and focusing on timely topics of interest for nurses.

The conference theme, “Nurses at the Forefront: Dealing with the Unexpected” highlighted the realities of nursing practice and acknowledged nurses’ expertise in dealing with the unexpected as well as provided an opportunity to interact with others from around the globe and gain a better understanding of nursing in Japan.

Prominent guest speakers were featured in plenary sessions, concurrent sessions, and symposia and posters which addressed the following cross cutting themes: Clinical Practice; Pandemics, Epidemics, Sudden Crisis, and Disasters; Nursing Health Policy and Services Management; Nursing Education; Nursing Health Research and Informatics: Ethics, Values and Wisdom; Labor and Workplace Issues; and Regulation.

“Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Minority Fellowship Program: A Model Program for Workforce Diversity” was presented by Faye A. Gary, EdD, RN, FAAN, MFP Executive Program Consultant and Director; Willa M. Doswell, PhD, RN, FAAN, Chair, MFP National Advisory Committee; and Janet Jackson, MFP Program Manager. ANA CEO, Linda J. Stierle, MSN, RN, CNAA,BC moderated the presentation.

Other Events included the Sixth Biennial Celebratory Luncheon hosted by the Florence Nightingale International Foundation (FNIF). Funds raised from the luncheon will help to support FNIF’s objectives and programs, including the Girl Child Education Fund and the Girl Child Initiative. The luncheon guest speaker was the 2007 FNIF International Achievement Award recipient Anneli Erikson, RN who has dedicated much of her working life to helping endangered communities during catastrophes.
