ANA Hosts 4th Annual Intensive Summer Institute
The Institute theme, “Advancing Healthcare by Strengthening Policy through Research,” provided the Fellows with opportunities to (1) apply public policy and healthcare delivery to substance abuse and mental health services and to (2) create and strengthen relationships with policy makers and national leaders in public policy and health care. The ISI addressed three levels of intersection in the healthcare system: the patient, the provider and the system. The objectives of the ISI were to:
1. Discuss the critical roles and responsibilities of selected mental health and substance abuse agencies from a national perspective and the importance of networking;
2. Discuss the essential contributions of congress persons and their staff in advancing science and supporting substance abuse, mental health and ethnic minority health;
3. Understand and appreciate the contributions of SAMHSA;
4. Demonstrate familiarity with AMOS which is an abbreviation for Analysis of Moment Structures. AMOS implements the general approach to data analysis. Known as structural equation modeling (SEM), it is also known as analysis of covariance structures, or casual modeling;
5. Gain a pithy sense of appreciation for and understanding of the history and current health status of Alaska Natives and American Indians through the medium of the American Indian Museum, a structure of the Smithsonian Institute;
6. Appreciate the research and contributions of MFP Fellows
