MFP Summer Institute 2004: Quantitative Research (8/25/04)
The SAMHSA Minority Fellowship Program (MFP) at the American Nurses Association held its first MFP Summer Institute, August 11 - 15, at the Wolstein Research Building, School of Medicine, at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. This weeklong intensive Institute focused on Research Methods and Applied Statistics.
The Institute featured special topics on the application of selected statistical analyses, models and procedures that are essential for nurses, epidemiologists, biostatisticians, and other substance abuse and mental health researchers. Following an overview of introductory statistics, the focus centered on measurements and research design, analyses of categorical data, straight-line and multiple regression, statistical power analysis, analysis of covariance, multivariate theory, multivariate analysis of variance and covariance, logistic regression, repeated measures, factor analysis, survival analysis, and structural equation modeling. Special attention to the application and choice of particular statistical models and problems were integrated throughout the discussions and demonstrations.
