Dr. Martha C. Baker has been a nurse for 34 years and has worked in a variety of settings. Currently, she is an Associate Professor of Nursing and Director of the BSN program at Southwest Baptist University, Springfield, MO. Previously she was as Associate Professor of Nursing at Missouri Southern State College in Joplin, MO. Her clinical experience has been primarily in critical care units both as a staff nurse and as a clinical specialist. She has held several management and supervisory positions and has been active in professional organizations such as the Missouri Nurses Association where she served on the state board of directors, the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, the Native Alaskan Native American Indian Nurses Association (NANAINA) where she has been active in scholarly presentations relating to critical care, spirituality and Native American nursing ideas. Dr. Baker has also worked with NANAINA on several projects including Pathways to Leadership, the Women's Best Practice Primary Care for Heart Disease, and at the University of Pennsylvania Summer Research Institute.

She is also a member of Sigma Theta Tau and active in volunteer groups in her community such as the American Legion Auxiliary and is a founding member of the Community Alliance for Compassionate Care at the End of Life.

Dr. Baker has been married for 34 years with two grown children, Cheryl and Greg, and two beautiful granddaughters, Miss Maggie and Miss Kylie Paige.
