Joe Garcia, RN, is a second year Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) student at Yale University School of Nursing.  After previously working in Yale Child Study Center’s Intensive In-Home Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Services, Mr. Garcia has changed departments and currently works at the Outpatient Psychiatric Clinic for Children. In the past year, he has also worked for NYU Child Study Center’s Summer Program for Kids. He has become an active member of the Sigma Theta Tau’s Nursing Honor Society.

Prior to his enrollment at Yale, he served a clinically diverse range of people in the healthcare field. He graduated from UCLA with a B.S. in psychobiology. While on campus, Mr. Garcia volunteered at Ronald Reagan hospital on the pediatric and pediatric oncology units.  He worked as a resident assistant for UCLA’s office of residential life and developed programs that focused on social justice awareness, leadership, and health. He also conducted research at UCLA’s Department of Neurobiology that focused on estrogen effects on the brain. He also has experience tutoring youth and community outreach in underprivileged areas around California.

Mr. Garcia enjoys participating in sports in his spare time. As a Health and Wellness Student Government Leader at Yale, he started the first official intramural sports group in Yale School of Nursing’s history.

Mr. Garcia hopes the combination of his passion, education, and experience will help him become a well-known leader in the psychiatric mental-health community so that he may have the platform to advocate for under-represented populations throughout the world.
