Clarence Johnson, BSN, RN, graduated from Fortis College in Columbia, SC, with his Associates Degree in nursing. It was during his clinical rotations in nursing school that he fell in love with the mental health field. He passed the NCLEX-RN and subsequently got a job with the South Carolina Department of Mental Health. He worked on the child and adolescent units and saw a wide variety of disorders that fascinated him. After about a year he relocated to Washington, DC.
He enrolled at Walden University in the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program. This educational opportunity will allow him to fulfill his dream of providing mental health services as an advanced practice nurse. He will be able to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care of children and adolescents who have mental health and or substance abuse issues.
Having come from humble beginnings, when he graduates he will dedicate himself to the mental health needs of his community to improve their quality of life.
