Kathy Wright, MSN, GCNS-BC, PMHCNS-BC, FGNLA is a doctoral candidate, John A. Hartford Building Academic Geriatric Nursing Capacity Scholar (2010 – 2012), and a full-time student at the University of Utah College of Nursing Hartford Center of Geriatric Excellence Distance Education Program, in Salt Lake City, UT. The aim of her dissertation is to test a conceptual framework for understanding social inequalities in physical function and emotional well-being among African American and Caucasian elders through a descriptive casual analysis. Numerous variables of interest will be explored by applying the House Model (2002) to both groups. The result of this study could be used to test interventions that tackle the biopsychosocial needs of vulnerable African American and Caucasian older adults. Her faculty advisors are Ginnette Pepper, PhD, RN, FAAN at the University of Utah and Diana L. Morris, PhD, RN, FAAN at Case Western Reserve University, in Cleveland, OH.

Ms. Wright is a double certified Clinical Nurse Specialist. She is an Adult Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse and Gerontological Nurse. Her background in mental health and chronic illness has helped to develop and fine tune her clinical acumen in the complexities of transitional care among elders. At the Summa Health System in Akron Ohio, she has worked as a co-investigator for a study that was designed to test the effectiveness of an interdisciplinary care management intervention that integrated medical and psychosocial care to improve the overall health and well-being for frail, low income older adults (After Discharge Management of Low Income Frail Elderly {AD-LIFE} R01 HS014539-02). Ms. Wright is a Fellow in the Geriatric Nursing Leadership Academy and a member of Sigma Theta Tau International. She is married and has one daughter.
