The focus of Ms. Shepherd’s doctoral research will be the positive correlation of veterans with mental illness and substance abuse that have a strong support system and/ or religious background in response to compliance and treatment.

She has proudly served in the United States Navy Reserve since 1999. The most meaningful time in service was her deployment to Landstuhl, Germany as a mental health nurse caring for soldiers with mental health disorder serving in the combat zone.
