Schola Matovu, RN, BSN is a full time PhD student at the University of California, San Francisco and a staff nurse on a medical/surgical/oncology unit. For the past 10 years, she has derived great professional satisfaction in caring for older adults in nursing homes, hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and in-home settings. In addition, she has worked at length as a research assistant on a qualitative study involving older African Americans and illicit drug abuse. Both personal and professional experiences have prepared Ms Matovu for her current research interest in the mental health and psychosocial wellbeing of older caregivers to chronically ill children.

Specifically, Ms Matovu is interested in investigating and comparing anxiety and depression symptoms in older African American and Ugandan caregivers to children infected with HIV/AIDS and other chronic illnesses. Ms Matovu is an active member of several campus committees and other professional organizations such as the Sigma Theta Tau International Society, California Nurses Association, and the American Nurses Association.
