Rush University, a nationally recognized clinical and academic venue, invites nominations and applications for the position of dean of the College of Nursing. Rush University is the academic component of Rush University Medical Center, a leader in health care in Chicago and the Midwest for more than 170 years. The College of Nursing is currently ranked 15th in the nation among 467 nursing colleges with graduate programs, and is ranked in the top 10 in six nursing specialties according to U.S. News and World Report. Offering master’s degrees and above, Rush students are prepared to advance the quality of patient care and nursing practice in a multitude of health care environments, to assume leadership positions, and to conduct innovative clinical research. The College of Nursing enjoys a close partnership with Rush University Medical Center, which earned its 3rd Magnet designation in 2010. Over 75% of the faculty members are doctorally-prepared and many are serving in national leadership positions, including as Fellows of the American Academy of Nursing.

As the chief executive officer for the College of Nursing, the dean will set the standard of intellectual engagement and accomplishment for the College. The dean will provide strategic vision and operational leadership to all aspects of the academic and scholarly program, creating an environment and community that support the College’s faculty and its students. The dean will provide leadership to assure the College continues to serve its students with academic programs of the highest quality and effectiveness. Reporting to both the President and the Provost, the dean will take a leadership role in fostering a positive and productive work environment that promotes excellence in teaching, practice and research.

The successful candidate will demonstrate national leadership in teaching, research, and practice. Minimum requirements include a graduate degree in nursing and an earned doctorate in nursing or a related field; a record of distinguished teaching and research; substantial administrative experience, and credentials that merit appointment at the rank of professor in nursing. The successful candidate will be a person of high integrity, and a creative leader with a strong record of collaborative leadership and commitment to academic excellence.
