Western Washington University (WWU) invites applications and nominations for a founding Academic Program Director of Nursing and Associate or Assistant Professor of Nursing to help launch and direct an innovative new RN-to-BSN program being developed collaboratively with regional associate degree nursing programs and community-based nursing practice partners. This new program will reflect WWU’s Mission statement to serve our state and nation through developing the potential of learners and contributing to the well-being of communities. This is a rare opportunity for collaborative, dynamic and visionary nursing leader and faculty to develop, implement and evaluate a new RN-BSN curriculum grounded in the AACN Essentials of Baccalaureate Nursing Education (2008) and informed by the IOM Report on the Future of Nursing (2011) that calls the nation to increase the percentage of BSN prepared nurses to 80% by 2020. The curriculum will support the developing potential of working nurses continuing their professional education which in turn will contribute to the well-being of our communities by addressing the critical need for BSN prepared nurses to contribute to a rapidly changing healthcare system.

The RN-BSN program will become an academic program within the Woodring College of Education, providing rich opportunities for interdisciplinary engagement with other professional programs sharing a commitment to the well-being of individuals, families and communities. The positions are a 9-month assignment (with summer employment opportunities) with appropriate tenured or tenure-track positions granted in the College of Education pending approval from faculty in the academic home. The desired start date for the positions is September 17, 2012 and the new program is on track for full implementation in 2013-2014 pending final university and state approvals.
