The American Nurses Foundation is requesting research proposals for a special grant to encourage research by qualified nurse scholars' and/or nursing doctoral students' research about African American nurses. The grant is funded by a gift by the late, legendary nurse leader, Mary Elizabeth Carnegie, RN, DPA, FAAN. Funding up to $20,000 is available.

To receive funding, an application and a written research proposal must be submitted to the Foundation's research committee. The guidelines for the proposal and the application form can be found on the research website.

Reviewers' comments will be shared with applicants. The grants will be allocated on a competitive basis depending on the quality of the written proposal and the research's contribution to nursing. Other factors affecting funding will be the amount of funding requested, the research fund budget, and the number of requests. Awards will be given to current ANA members.

This special grant will be awarded by December 31, 2012. The deadline for submission is November 15, 2012. Proposals should be submitted through the American Nurses Foundation's easy on-line system . If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us through the Nursing Research Grant office at the American Nurses Foundation by email
