Judith Cornelius

Judith B. Cornelius is a post doctoral fellow at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Cornelius received her baccalaureate degree in nursing from Hampton Institute, Hampton, Virginia , her masters of science degree in nursing with a concentration on Adult Health Nursing from Hampton University and her Doctor of Nursing Science degree from Rush University in Chicago. The title of her dissertation was "The Effect of an Experiential Learning Method on Baccalaureate Nursing Students' Knowledge, Attitudes and Perceived Preparedness to Provide Care to HIV Individuals. She began her tenure in nursing education as an instructor at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Her last teaching position was as an Associate Professor at Hampton University where she taught senior level medical-surgical nursing and nursing research.

Dr. Cornelius' current research involves Family HIV Risk Reduction Behaviors. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International, Eastern Nursing Research Society, American Nurses Association and the Virginia Nurses Association. She has served as the Virginia Nurses Association Commissioner for Workplace Issues and Secretary of District 10. Dr. Cornelius has presented workshops on workplace issues and has spoken at District meetings about this topic. She was the writer of a quarterly column in the Virginia Nurse Today entitled "Dear Judy". The format for this column was to provide nurses in the state of Virginia a mechanism for having questions answered about workplace issues. Dr. Cornelius remains active in clinical practice. She is married and has two sons.

2005 Update

Dr.  Cornelius joined the faculty at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as Assistant Professor.

2008 Update

  • Received two-year funding for an R21 Grant from NIH/NINR
  • A visiting Professor in the School of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) in the Center for AIDS Prevention Studies (CAPS). CAPS is part of the AIDS Research Institute at UCSF. The AIDS Research Institute (ARI) coordinates and integrates all AIDS research activities at the University of California, San Francisco. The ARI stimulates innovation and supports interdisciplinary collaboration aimed at all aspects of the epidemic domestically and around the world. Bringing together hundreds of scientists and more than 50 programs from throughout the university and affiliated labs and institutions, and working in close collaboration with affected communities, the ARI is one of the premier AIDS research entities in the world.
