MFP Dissertation Support Request and Budget Form




The SAMHSA Minority Fellowship Program at the American Nurses Association provides financial support for the Fellows' dissertation research. Funds are awarded based on the availability of resources, and the quality of your research. As a rule, the MFP Committee Members considers awards that are between $1-5,000. The dissertation proposal request should be a maximum of 5 single-sided and double-spaced pages, with the following components presented in this order:

  • Name of Fellow

  • Name of Institution

  • Address, Telephone, Fax, and Email addresses of the Fellow and the Chair of the Dissertation Committee

  • Dissertation Title

  • A Timeline Line with Anticipated Date of Completion

  • A brief Summary of research study including the (1) purpose statement, (2) specific aims, (3) significance of the research and its relationship to substance abuse and or mental health issues, (4) theoretical framework, (5) research participants, (4) study design, and (5) preliminary plans for your future research.

  • Current dissertation status including:
    • progress to date;
    • current or potential source for alternative funding
    • problems encountered; and
    • plans for addressing any known problems related to your research

  • A Detailed Budget with justifications for all listed expenses

  • A Signed Letter of support from Dissertation Chair or Academic Advisor
All requests are reviewed for consideration by the MFP National Advisory Committee based on available funds.
